Advertising LED Display Screen Price: What Outdoor Adds

The outdoor requirements that change an advertising LED display screen price, including brightness, protection, structure and power.

An outdoor advertising LED display costs substantially more than an indoor screen of the same size and pitch. The difference is not margin — it is a list of things the screen has to survive.

What outdoor actually adds

RequirementWhat it addsTypical impact
Brightness 5,000–10,000 nitsMore LED, more power, more heatSignificant
Ingress protectionSealed cabinets, gaskets, drainageModerate
Thermal managementFans or conduction paths, sometimes coolingModerate
Steel structure and wind loadEngineered support, foundationsOften the largest single line
Surge and lightning protectionProtection devices at every entrySmall but non-negotiable
Maintenance accessCatwalks, front service, or a lift planVaries enormously

On tall installations the structure and access lines frequently exceed the display line. A screen that costs less than its steel is a normal outcome, not a red flag.

Wind load is the line buyers forget

An outdoor screen is a sail. The structure must be engineered for the site’s wind conditions, and the numbers are not intuitive — doubling wind speed roughly quadruples pressure.

This is why “the same screen” is quoted differently for a sheltered courtyard and an exposed rooftop. Any supplier quoting an outdoor advertising LED display screen price without asking about the site’s wind conditions has not engineered it.

If the screen also moves

A rotating or opening outdoor display adds drives, bearings, slip rings, position feedback, and a safety system that must bring the structure to a controlled stop under fault conditions. Motion is not a finishing touch on an outdoor screen — it is a mechanical project that happens to carry LED.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an outdoor LED screen cost more than the same size indoors?

The screen is only part of it. Outdoor cabinets need a higher ingress rating and higher brightness, with the power and cooling that follow. Then comes the structure, which has to hold the screen against wind and not just gravity. On many advertising projects the steelwork and the foundation are a larger line than the display.

How is wind load calculated for an advertising LED screen?

By a structural engineer working from the local code, the site exposure and the projected area of the screen — not from a rule of thumb. What you can settle early is the input data: the real screen dimensions and the mass. The LED wall calculator gives both from a target size.

Does a rotating or moving advertising display cost much more?

It changes what is being priced. A static screen is a display on a structure; a rotating landmark display is a machine that happens to carry a screen, with drives, bearings, a slip ring and a control system that all need engineering and maintenance. The display cost may be similar; the project cost is not.
